Our Method to learn French

The emphasis of our method is on communication as we strongly believe in a "direct approach" to start speaking French from the very first lesson. Practise is mostly about making mistakes and learning from these mistakes and consolidating from this experience. This requires repetition of the skill until it is mastered. It means concentrating on your weaknesses and overcoming these.

French courses London offered by Tailor Made Language are for those who are serious about speaking French. If you want to learn French, of course you need a good training but you also need the will to succeed. We can't rest with just "teaching" a client a new language - we require the client to communicate in that medium - a much more difficult task.

In order to succeed in teaching children through the immersion method through private French courses London, Tailor Made Language has devised an innovative programme with a wide range of stumulating games, French songs and lots of fun activities!

French Lessons FAQs

  1. How long does it take to become fluent in a language ?

It all depends on the following factors : the level you are when you start, how proficient you are at languages in general, how much you participate in the class (and do the homework!), and the frequency of the classes.

  2. How do I know my level ?

For private tuition, the teacher will evaluate your ear and level individually.

You may also find it useful to check our Level Guide.

  3. Do teachers speak English during the lessons ?

Very rarely, because the most effective way to learn or improve your language skills is through complete immersion in the language. However, the occasional explanation or vocabulary term may be explained in English, as well as grammar rules.

  4. What qualifications do your native teachers possess ?

Our teachers are qualified with teaching certificates, university degrees, professional experience or qualifications or a combination of the above.

  5. Where does the training take place ?

    • All our private tuition for adults take place at your home/ place of work/ an alternative venue of your choice.
    • For corporate clients : tuition will take place in the convenience of your company’s premises.
    • All our tuition for children take place at the parent’s home.
  6. Will I get a copy of the CD/ listening materials that are used in your evening public classes ?

No, our coursebook CDs are designed to be used in a class and with a teacher, they are not designed for self study.

  7. Can I receive a qualification or certificate after my courses ?

Yes, we understand how important it is to show any language courses on your CV. Therefore if this applies to you, just let us know and we will forward an appropriate attendance certificate after your course.

  8. Who do I contact if I am not going to be able to go to an evening public class ?

We regret that we are unable to pass on any messages regarding absenteeism, homework...to teachers. Your teacher may be willing to give you their contact details in the first lesson. We recommand that the classmates swap contact details for this purpose.

  9. Can I pay a deposit and then pay the rest later ?

No. You must pay the entire amount by card or cheque at time of booking. The course can start as soon as this is received.

  10. Can I pay by cash ?

If you cannot pay by card on the telephone or by sending a cheque, you may be able to go to the school to enroll and pay by cash. Please email for further details.

  11. Can I cancel a private lesson booked at anytime ?

The client must notify the company and the teacher of any cancellation at least 24 working hours before the date and time of the lesson.

Any lesson cancelled less than 24 working hours before it is scheduled will be billed in full.

  12. Do I need to use my block of hours within a limited period of time ?

Yes, there is 12 months restriction to use your hours. You can put your language training on hold if needed but you have to use your block of hours in the 12 months following the starting date.

There is a balance of grammar, vocabulary, listening, conversation and pronunciation during each lesson as it is important to understand how the language works to be able to speak naturally and efficiently.

For example, the French lesson can start with a listening activity followed by a grammar task which will then be used to understand a written document (newspaper, text...). Reading the document is a good opportunity to correct the pronunciation as well as explaining the different rules in French pronunciation, and finally, a relevant role play, debate or conversation in order to use what has been learnt during the lesson.
